Document Translator

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Translate the training content from English into Thai language for better accessibility. Ensure accurate technical terminology, adapt for cultural relevance, and provide clear explanations.
2. Performance, provide agreed translation schedule and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
3. Ensure compliance with mine safety standards and operational procedures.
4. Translating training materials and competency assessments from English into Thai. 
5. Support onsite translation activities and collaborate with operations and safety teams.
6. Maintain training material records and report progress to management.
7. Use the Akara document control system processes, to ensure compliance.

Qualifications

Essential

• Bachelor’s degree in translation, linguistics
• Proficient in Microsoft Software
• Thailand-approved manual vehicle licence

Preferred

• Over 5 years of hands-on experience working in a complex environment, specializing in translation and communication between diverse teams, ensuring clarity in technical documents, and facilitating operator training programs within high-performance production settings.
• Experience developing and refining translation strategies and resource plans, including alignment with operational guidelines and project timelines to support accurate, reliable, and cost-effective communication across languages.

Technical Skills 

Essential

• Proven experience applying Continuous Improvement and Business Improvement methodologies to enhance translation processes, translator performance, and project efficiency. Actively identifies opportunities to improve accuracy, turnaround time, and cost-effectiveness through structured problem-solving and feedback loops.
• Proficient in communication with high English literacy—capable of translating complex concepts, providing clear interpretations, and engaging with diverse teams and stakeholders across operational and safety contexts.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess translation quality, identify language proficiency gaps, and understand industry trends in linguistic technology, cultural nuances, and communication efficiency.
• Translating intricate technical materials and comprehensive training programs.
• Practical knowledge in contributing to strategic and annual planning, budgeting — ensuring translation programs are aligned with operational priorities, resource allocation, and long-term linguistic performance goals.
• Demonstrates the ability to prepare clear, accurate translation reports and maintain detailed records of language proficiency, interpretation sessions, and project usage supporting compliance, continuous improvement, and operational transparency.
• Deep understanding of occupational hazards in mining environments, focusing on risks, ground stability, visibility limitations, and emphasizing the importance of hazard awareness, risk mitigation, and safe operating practices in training programs.

Preferred

• Demonstrates strong communication skills with a proactive, ‘Can Do’ attitude motivating team members, leading by example in accuracy and thoroughness, and fostering a positive, solutions-focused translation environment.
• Proficient in utilizing translation management software and tools such as SDL Trados, memoQ, and Wordfast, Microsoft products to ensure accuracy and clarity in translations. Experienced in interpreting technical documents and specialized terminology to facilitate effective communication and support continuous improvement in multilingual training outcomes.
• Ability to develop Safe Working Procedures specific to translator operations and effectively demonstrate these to teams and clients ensuring clear understanding, compliance with language standards, and consistent application in different contexts.

Other Skills/Attributes/Experience 

Essential

• Thai Driving License (manual vehicle)
• Proficient in spoken and written Thai, English—capable of accurately translating training content, safety procedures, and operational expectations for Thai-speaking operators and contractor teams, ensuring clarity, engagement, and compliance.
• Proficient in facilitating effective communication across language barriers and demands attention to detail, excellent writing skills, and a dedication to maintaining high-quality standards in translations.
• The ability to work independently as a translator, making informed linguistic decisions and evaluating contexts to provide clear and accurate translations. This includes setting a strong example for peers and upholding high standards of translation quality and cultural sensitivity.

Preferred

• Experience dealing with various stakeholders in a translation role means effectively communicating and collaborating with different groups such as clients, linguists, project managers, and end users. It involves understanding diverse perspectives, resolving linguistic and cultural issues professionally, and ensuring translations align with client goals and industry standards.
• The ability to enhance their skills, knowledge, and performance through structured training, mentorship, and continuous improvement. This ensures the translator is proficient, detail-oriented, and aligned with project goals.
